23 s CPU usage despite never being logged in, no web apps?

I have a fresh PA account with no web apps, no extra files at all. I hadn't logged in in at least 24 hours but when I logged in this morning I saw:

23% used – 23.38s of 100s. Resets in 1 hour, 12 minutes

How can this be? What was churning for 23 s if I have nothing in my account?

Did you have any programs running in a console? They can continue to run, potentially using up CPU time, even if you're not logged in.

Nope, no consoles, no scheduled tasks, absolutely nothing. Weird, right??

Is it possible the readout was something cached in your records? My memory is foggy but I feel like the 23 seconds was the last usage readout I had when I logged in and was doing stuff a few days ago...

I don't think so -- the system that clears down old records of CPU-seconds runs for everyone, so I'd expect it to fail for everyone if it failed at all -- not just for one person.

Unfortunately this time around, your tarpit usage reset in between you reporting the problem and us seeing your post, so all of the records about where it came from were cleared.

Maybe if it happens again, let us know and hopefully we'll be able to track down what's happening?

I'll certainly let you know if I notice it again.
