Second time Website is down

Hi,

I am a University Student who is using PythonAnywhere for my final year project.

We had a meeting with our client last Thursday morning (6th of oct), we wanted to show our client the progress we had made. We went to our website url and it was down. It was embarrassing and a waste of time, for our team, for our supervisor and our client. We couldn't show any progress and the meeting was cancelled because I couldn't figure out what the problem was.

Approximately 2 hours later the website was up again. At the time I didn't bring this up to your attention because it is understandable if there are rare server issues, maybe upgrades or what ever that may have caused our website to go down (temporarily).

Now, it is down again. We have very limited time to finish the project. Exams are coming, and assignments are piling up. This is starting to become inconvenient.

All of the above being said, could someone please explain what the issue is?

Hi there -- the problem last Thursday was on our side, sorry about that! But we can't see any system issues at all right now. What are the symptoms of your site being down at the moment? I've checked the one associated with this account, and it looks OK from here.

It loads for about 10 seconds then I get a "this site can't be reached". The same exact symptoms showed last Thursday.

Who is your DNS / domain name provider? I checked the CNAME lookup for your domain on What's my DNS and it's failing from a number of locations. That would be consistent with the kind of error you're seeing (which I don't think could be caused by any other kind of PythonAnywhere outage that didn't also take down our own site, making these forums inaccessible).

It is Godaddy, if the issue is from their part I will give their customer service a call.

The issue right now is definitely on the DNS side, so hopefully they'll be able to help.

If the problem last Thursday had the same symptoms ("site can't be reached" error after ten seconds, PythonAnywhere site working) then I was overly hasty in saying it was an outage on our side. We did have some problems last week, and again over the weekend (we think we may have fixed them) but the symptom of that would have been a PythonAnywhere error page showing on your site.

OK, I will give them a call.

Thanks for your help giles.

No problem! I've sent you a screenshot of the DNS diagnosis page showing the errors -- it might be helpful for GoDaddy to see that.
