Sorry, I'm still really new to websites and stuff. I started my web app a few days ago for my portfolio and hits are unusually high. If it says 1000 hits, does that means my site was visited 1000 unique times? How exactly are these hits counted?

How are hits calculated for the site?
A hit is any request that is made to your web app. So if you have a lot of resources loaded by each of your pages, each request for a resource is a hit.
