a little bit slow - site speed

speed test: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/zMSWt/http://to2.co/

i see that most significant percent of time the client is waiting for data from the server.

why that happens. is it possible to improve that ?

10x

For a site that's delivering normal pages, ie quite small response sizes, you'd expect most of the time to be in wait. Compare it to any other site out there, I tried, www.djangoproject.com, and got 82% as well.

The question is, whether it's a relatively long wait or a short one.

We've made some tweaks to the server setup, so re-run the test today, and see if you get different numbers for total load time? And also see if the subjective feel of the site is any better?

11:00 (tel-aviv local time): "Your website is faster than 40% of all tested websites" -> "Your website is faster than 90% of all tested websites"

look much better.

10x

i see that if no visitors in the site some time (lets say some hours), the firs load after that is much slower that next.

is some mehanizem that can cause that ? (some kind of sleep for that machine resources maybe)

@reuven, that's exactly right yes, I think we set the workers to go to sleep after 26 hours of inactivity... then the first hit takes a second or two to wake them all up again...
