old account new domain getting "coming soon" page

Hello

we had to change our domain name and we re-configured the CNAME and forward location at our registrar. That seems to be working correctly when tested with https://www.whatsmydns.net/#CNAME We also followed the instructions in UsingANewDomainForExistingWebApp and other related forum/wiki entries but we always end up at "Coming soon!" page.

The original domain was waste-to-energy-class-action.org
the new one is waste-to-energy-class-action-and-health-studies.org
the PA site is w2eca.pythonanywhere.com

Any hints on resolving the issue are appreciated. Thank you.

There is no domain set up at waste-to-energy-class-action-and-health-studies.org or waste-to-energy-class-action.org. To use a domain name, you need to set up a web app at that domain.

Also please note that having a custom domain name is a paying feature.

Until December 2014 the original domain name (waste-to-energy-class-action.org) worked just fine.
Maybe the ability to have a custom domain name was removed sometime after the site was initially setup.
Can anyone confirm?.

Thanks.

No the custom domain name has always been a paying feature.

What may have happened previously was that you just redirected all requests to waste-to-energy-class-action.org to w2eca.pythonanywhere.com (ie. people would just see w2eca.pythonanywhere.com on the url when they are browsing the site and for all interactions afterwards)

You can still try to set that up with your new domain if you want, but for our servers to respond to requests going to waste-to-energy-class-action-and-health-studies.org, you will have to setup a paying account and a webapp for that domain.

Maybe it was just redirected. It is a non-profit org with very low traffic so for now it will be kept as a free account. It does not really matter if the url shows as pythonanywhere after the initial redirect.

We believe the redirect has been setup, so why doesn't it end up at the correct page?.

Thanks.

That's something you need to setup with your domain name registrar (most likely where you bought the domain name), and would be called something like url redirect instead of c-name etc that you were trying to setup.

Perhaps check out how you configured your old domain?

Unfortunately the old domain is no longer accessible. Are you suggesting to remove the CNAME at the registrar?. The domain "pointer" URL (domain home directory or forward location) is set to w2eca.pythonanywhere.com

yes- remove the cname, setup a url redirect (if your new domain registration service doesn't have this then you are out of luck)

That did the trick. Thank you!
