Subdomains

OK, so I've read all the material from here and stackoverflow on subdomains here I can find...but to no avail. Please help! I have a cname set up with www pointing to thefritobandit.pythonanywhere.com. I tried to set up another, slides pointing also at thefritobandit.pythonanywhere.com. I've tried several versions of this and can't get anything going for a subdomain. Thanks for checking this out. Brad

edit: i'm registered at godaddy by the way

Hi there -- I can see that you have the CNAME slides set up to point at thefritobandit.pythonanywhere.com, so all of the DNS setup is fine. But you don't have a web app set up for that subdomain yet, so that's why it's not working. If you want a completely new web app on that subdomain, you just need to click the "Add a new web app" button. If you want a duplicate of the web app you have at www then these instructions should help.

I knew it wasn't set up yet but I was getting godaddy's error page, not paw's. As it turns out I just hadn't waited long enough. I'm now getting paw's error page which is what I was going for at the moment. Thanks for the reply!

No problem! This site is a good way of keeping track of DNS propagation when you're trying to set this kind of thing up.

I recently discovered (contrary to previous GoDaddy helpdesk advice) that you can create your own CName alias redirecting subdomains of your own choosing to username.pythonanywhere.com Like for instance test.domainame.com

You aren't restricted to the options they list (like 'files' or 'pop', etc.) ; you don't need a CName alias for *.domainame.com and your traffic is not randomly split between domain and subdomains as it would if you set all the A records to point to the same IP (another bad bit of GoDaddy advice!)

That's good to hear! Well, it's good to hear that you can do all of that, not that their advice is bad...
