I'd like to take a look at old logs (to backfill some data in the database) but I'm finding that I don't have any error logs that are earlier than 04/28/2023 which I find odd because my application has been up since 02/2023. Is this because of a built in purging of logs? Is there any way to recover the old logs?

Yes, we rotate logs over a week and delete the ones that are older than a week. There is no way to recover logs that have been rotated away.
