Get get my app verified with google search console, getting this error

î—‰Ownership verification failed Verification method: HTML file Failure reason: The connection to your server timed out. Please fix your implementation and reverify, or use another verification method.

What could be causing this?? They said I should contact you because its a server issue.

Please assist.

Thank you

Where are you seeing this error?

In Google Console when attempting to verify the website. The code is in the header--but still not verifying. Google advised us to contact you since they suspect the issue is on this end.

What is the exact URL that you are providing to Google for verification? If it's not something you'd like to share in these public forums, you can send it privately using the "Send feedback" link at the top of the page.

http://www.ihategoodreads.com

the issue still priests *persists meant to say

I do not see any additional headers on that URL that Google could use for verification. Make sure that the code that you are using to set the headers is actually working.

Still not working!!!

Hello, it's still not verifying. We waited for more than 48 hours--attempted to verify and still not working.

Where should we place the google search console verification file? In what folder? We want to try to verify that way. ~~~Thank you

You'll really need to get in touch with Google tech support about this. If your site is definitely sending the correct stuff back (and I see that you do have a

 <meta name="google-site-verification" ...

tag at the start), then they are best placed to tell you what the problem is. We don't have any insight into what they might be doing.

@giles I am having the same problem. The Google Search Console says the request for any static page -- or even any page served via Flask -- times out which implies that it's something on your end. I can get the pages to load no problem in my web browser but they continually time out when I try to verify via Google Search Console.

Are you sure there is no code that blocks bots from indexing pages under the pythonanywhere.com domain? I know you show up in search results ... but that is the only thing I can think of.

We do not block bots.

I do believe you, but I still get this error message every single time I try and have Google Search console load the page:

"The connection to your server timed out."

Can you think of anything else that might be causing this issue? And is there any chance you could add a TXT record to the DNS to see if that will solve the problem? I'd be grateful.

No, we do not provide DNS TXT records like that for default domains. Maybe consider using your own domain.
