Tasks

I've definitely got something weird going on with my tasks.

I had 2 tasks running for 3 minutes past the hour and 33 minutes past the hour. This morning, I noticed that they hadn't been running over night as they update a MySQL table with temperature readings. When I checked, they had disappeared from my Tasks page on PA.

I added them back in but changed the times to 18 minutes past the hour and 48 minutes past the hour.

I just looked at the table and see this:

| 9 | 2018-11-22 10:48:59 | 18.10 | 1.38 | Haze | |
| 10 | 2018-11-22 10:56:33 | 18.00 | 0.73 | Haze | 50d |
| 11 | 2018-11-22 11:03:02 | 17.90 | 1.38 | Haze | 50d |
| 12 | 2018-11-22 11:18:18 | 17.80 | 3.15 | Haze | 50d |
| 13 | 2018-11-22 11:33:02 | 17.60 | 3.15 | Haze | 50d |

Ignore line 10, that's where I ran it manually because I've put some code in to get an image icon from OpenWeatherMap.

You can see that the task now appears to be running at 3, 18, 33 and 48 mins past the hour.

My task screen just shows the ones for 18 and 48 mins past the hour. I've even done a hard refresh on the page.

Any ideas?

Cheers Andy

Regarding the disappearing tasks, according to our logs you created two tasks on 9 November, then two more on 11 November, then deleted them all at around 14:19 UTC on 16 November (all within five seconds of each other). Then you created two more at about 06:35 UTC today. (We don't keep logs of what the tasks in question do because it could cause GDPR problems.)

Clearly that's not what you thought you were doing, of course, as you expected there to be two left after your actions on the 16th -- presumably you just tried to delete two of them. Do you happen to remember anything weird happening in the UI when you did that?

Regarding the timing -- line 12 is also a result of a manual run, I thing. I don't want to leak information about how your system works, so I won't say exactly why I think that here -- I'll send you an email instead.

[edit: hmm, it actually seems more complicated than that -- will post back here or over email as appropriate]

[edit: OK, worked it out. Details emailed to you.]

Hi Giles

I'm so sorry about that. My excuse is that I'm old, just learning all this stuff and get very easily confused! For anyone else reading, this is completely my fault. As Giles discovered with his detective work and pointed out in the comprehensive e-mail he sent me, I have a Raspberry Pi doing some of the home automation grunt work at home. It was doing everything that I'm now doing with PA and I completely forgot that there's a cron job on the Pi doing the same wget as I had set up, then deleted, on my PA dashboard.

Thanks for your help, Giles. Fantastic service!

Regards Andy

No problem, glad to help! It was a fun bit of sleuthing :-)
